Harassment Intimidation and Bullying (HIB)
New Jersey has been a leader in the establishment of a strong statutory, regulatory, policy and program framework to support the prevention, remediation and reporting of HIB in schools. Each school, through its School Safety Team, is require to evaluate its implementation of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019 by using the "School Self-Assessment for Determining Grades under the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights". This Self-Assessment tool includes eight core elements which address all of the eight core requirements for schools. School Safety Teams must assign a rating for each indicator based on the criteria and available documentation.
Althea Gibson Academy received a score of 78.
The East Orange School District received an average score of 74.
While completing the Self-Assessment, we learned that our school has demonstrated strengths in the integration of HIB prevention themes into our instructional program. This has resulted in the creation of positive school-wide conditions.
